About Us

The mission of the Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) is to provide regulatory guidance, environmental awareness and implement an energy strategy that will bring economic benefits to the Commonwealth while protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for Kentucky businesses, workers and the public in general.

The cabinet employs 1,769 staff who work in the departments of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Energy Development and Independence

In the EEC, we take seriously our role of overseers in carefully and thoughtfully addressing the energy needs of Kentucky's citizens. Whether from our historic coal operations and seeking ways in which to mine and deliver that mineral more safely and cleanly, or developing stringent regulations that make certain Kentucky’s natural beauty is not harmed, EEC employees continue to work diligently to bring vital services to all Kentuckians.
