Annual Reports
The mission of the Division of Water is to “manage, protect and enhance the quality and quantity of the Commonwealth’s water resources for present and future generations through voluntary, regulatory and educational programs.” The division is responsible for numerous state programs designed to protect Kentucky’s human health and environment. In addition to implementing and enforcing state programs authorized by the legislature, DOW is the primary agency responsible for implementing and enforcing most of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act programs in Kentucky.
DOW must be responsive to current conditions in the Commonwealth that warrant immediate attention while still implementing these programs. The 2008 drought, 2009 ice storm and 2010 flooding are all examples of such conditions. In order to address these issues while still carrying out the DOW mission, the division implements a yearly operational plan. The DOW Annual Report serves as both task list and scorecard to communicate to the citizens of the Commonwealth what was accomplished during the previous state fiscal year.
