This preserve protects one of the best remaining examples of limestone glades in Kentucky. These glades are dry, rocky openings on otherwise forested south-facing slopes. They provide habitat for several rare plant species, including the barrens silky aster (Symphyotrichum pratense). The Hardin County Fiscal Court dedicated 58 acres of county property on Sept. 2, 1987, initiating the KNP's first land protection partnership with local government. The KNP purchased 109 acres of additional glades and surrounding second-growth forest which were dedicated March 2, 2005. Another 64 acres were purchased and dedicated on June 25, 2009.
