In Kentucky, the KY Division for Air Quality (DAQ) is responsible for air permitting in all counties except Jefferson. The
Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District is responsible for air permitting in Jefferson County.
Before constructing, operating, or modifying any emission source or unit that requires registration or an air permit, you must first obtain approval from DAQ.

In Kentucky, air permits are typically required to be renewed every 5 or 10 years. Specific requirements for a facility can be found in that facility's air permit. To search for a copy of any air permit, please use

Timely submittal of your renewal application is essential to ensure continuity of coverage under your existing permit and to maintain compliance with all applicable air quality regulations.
A complete renewal application must be submitted at least six (6) months prior to the expiration date listed on the cover page of a facility's permit. Failure to submit the renewal application by this deadline may result in enforcement action or an interruption of your permit coverage.
Before Applying for an Air Permit Renewal
The existing permit should be used as a checklist, and a facility walk-through should be conducted to ensure the permit still reflects current equipment and operations.
If the current permit does not accurately reflect all emission points, etc., then you may need to submit a permit modification in addition to the permit renewal. Contact the Division for Air Quality if you have any questions about permit modification.

Submit a Renewal Package
The preferred method for submitting your air permit renewal package is through
EEC eForms. You will use Form ID 54: DAQ Permit Application Electronic Submittal. Once the renewal is successfully submitted, a verification email containing the time and date of the submission will be sent automatically. You may wish to save a copy of the verification email for your personal records.
