Green and Tradewater Rivers Basin

Each of Kentucky's major river basins is supported by a Basin Coordinator, a facilitator for agency activities and a point of contact for community members and partners working to address water quality issues. As members of the non-regulatory branch of the Division of Water, our mission is to restore and protect the waters of the Commonwealth through meaningful, scientifically driven water education initiatives that connect all communities to tools for water stewardship and appreciation. We envision a Commonwealth whose communities are educated in water issues, understand their impacts on water health, and are actively engaged in environmental stewardship.

A major function of the Basin Coordinator is to assist communities in developing and funding watershed planning. A watershed plan is a strategy and a work plan for achieving water resource goals that provides assessment and management information for a geographically defined watershed. It includes the analyses, actions, participants, and resources related to development and implementation of the plan. Watershed planning areas have access to funding to address pollution issues identified in the area.
