​​​​​​​​​​Kentucky has many beautiful reservoirs that are great for recreation. These man-made lakes are used by many people each summer for swimming, water skiing and floating quietly in the coves. However, improper disposal of human waste from the holding tanks of houseboats can lead to harmful algal blooms​ and unsafe swimming conditions. Swimming in water with human waste can cause infections of your eyes, ears, skin, and urinary tract. It can also cause a variety of intestinal illnesses.
