The following links and information about other agencies may be of interest to §401 Water Quality Certification Applicants.

US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)

USACE administers §404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Sections 9 and 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act. Kentucky is covered by the following four districts:

US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)

USEPA is charged with administering the CWA. The mission of the USEPA is to protect human health and the environment.

US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)

USFWS administers the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The mission of the USFWS is to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

NRCS provides financial and technical assistance for voluntary conservation programs.

KY Department for Natural Resources (DNR)

DNR reviews Water Quality Certification applications associated with activities related to surface coal mining operations.

KY Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)

KDFWR serves as the stewards of Kentucky's fish and wildlife resources and their habitats.
