A wide variety of water-specific web maps, applications, and services are being showcased from this Portal. DOW has compiled these maps as a service to our customers using information from various sources. DOW cannot ensure that the information is accurate, current or complete. Neither the information presented nor the maps themselves are official documents.

Source Water Protection
Source water protection is a common-sense approach to guarding public health by protecting drinking water supplies. Ensuring safe and adequate drinking water supplies requires maintaining the quality and availability of present and future water supply sources. This resource reviews Source Water Protection Strategies and includes resources for you to engage with your community.

Field Operations Branch
The field staff in each of the Division of Water regional offices performs a wide variety of inspections and addresses the concerns raised by the public with swift responses to complaints and emergencies. The division requires its inspectors to have broad programmatic knowledge and experience in addressing compliance issues. Inspectors must be well trained and equipped in order to perform consistent inspections, provide technical assistance and implement appropriate enforcement action.

Watershed Management Branch
The Watershed Management Branch provides leadership for comprehensive planning and analysis of water quality and quantity, on a watershed basis. The branch coordinates the Watershed Management Framework, through which watersheds are targeted for planning and implementation. For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

Surface Water Permits Branch
The Surface Water Permits Branch primarily issues KPDES permits to control the amount of pollutants that can be discharged to the surface waters of the Commonwealth. It issues operational permits for wastewater and stormwater discharges (KPDES), construction permits for new treatment plants for individual family residences, no discharge permits for land application and closed loop systems (KNDOP), and operational permits for collection systems discharging to a sewer system or wastewater treatment plant owned by another entity (KISOP). For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

Drinking Water Branch
The Drinking Water Branch works closely with Public Water systems and Environmental Laboratories to ensure that the systems receive accurate sample results, treat and distribute water properly, are appropriately staffed and equipped to meet today’s challenges as well as future challenges in protection of the public health. For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

Water Quality Branch
The Water Quality Branch is responsible for monitoring and assessing the water quality of the Commonwealth's streams, rivers, lakes, and wetlands. The branch develops and reviews water quality standards, classifies surface waters for designated uses, reports on the state’s water quality in the 305(b) Integrated Report, and creates Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) documents. For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

EEC eForms
The eForms website is the Energy and Environment Cabinet's (EEC’s) electronic forms website. eForms enables both DEP and DNR to utilize web-based technology and provide an online means to submit forms that had previously been paper-based. eForms are designed to make the permitting and compliance process business-friendly for industry and citizens within the state who are required to submit paper forms to the Cabinet. For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

Check your Pipes
Check your Pipes, KY is an initiative to assist water utilities, homeowners, and other stakeholders in reducing the risk of lead exposure in drinking water. These pages have a series of resources that are designed to help water professionals, customers, and decision-makers understand the risks of lead and what can be done to protect drinking water sources. For additional information, follow the link/QR code.

Harmful Algal Blooms Viewer
A harmful algal bloom, or HAB, occurs when toxin-producing cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, grow excessively in a body of water. These bacteria can produce toxins which may affect the liver, nervous system and/or skin in animals or humans. Not all cyanobacteria produce toxins and some produce toxins only under certain conditions. To see current advisories, please access the Division of Water Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Viewer by following the link/QR code.

Voluntary Lead Testing in Schools and Childcare Facilities
The Kentucky Division of Water is coordinating a voluntary lead sampling program for drinking water in schools and childcare facilities. This program offers schools and childcare facilities free lead testing and gives educational and remedial guidance for reducing lead exposure in drinking water from those facilities. The sampling from this program can be used by water systems as part of their LCRI compliance. For more information or to view previous facility sample results follow the link/QR code.
